REKETUKAS is a vibrant and constantly growing communal children's and youth folklore ensemble of Vilnius Teachers' House. It has existed since 2000. In 2011 REKETUKAS was acknowledged a the best children's folklore ensemble in Lithuania and was awarded with the nomination "Golden Bird".
Currently the group consists of about sixty children and young people of various ages. The members of the ensemble not only learn traditional games, songs or dances but together with their family members celebrate calendar holidays, organize trips and most importantly they learn to be together and enjoy simple but appropriate and time-tested elements.
During its lifetime the ensemble has participated in many concerts and evenings, attended local and regional folk festivals around Lithuania and abroad. REKETUKAS is a constant participant of song festivals. It also participated in ceremonial events in the Parliament of Lithuania and the Presidency, the Royal Palace and elsewhere. It has repeatedly appeared on National TV shows and it was highly accepted with concerts in Latvia, Belarus, Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Finland, Estonia, Slovakia and Macedonia.
The name of the group refers to an ancient wooden children's toy. In other dialects it has several other meanings. For example, a straw, a grove, a thread wrap device and a rope making tool as well as a branched ricer and some others.
